Here is the extra equipment you should have for winter driving:

• Snow tires
• Blanket
• Shovel
• Extra windshield washer solvent
• Play sand
• Jumper cables
• Safety flares
• Window ice scraper
• Isopropyl dry gas
• Proper maintenance

Put on 4 snow tires.

Keep the fuel tank as full as possible. This adds weight where you need it most and can save your life if stranded in a blizzard or stuck in a ditch.

Keep a shovel, a blanket, extra windshield washer solvent and jumper cables in your trunk.

A few safety flares could really help in an unfortunate situation.

In sedans 3 or 4 50lb bags of play sand in the trunk will help get weight over the drive wheels and also come in handy to spread on ice to help get out of situations.

Never put unsecured heavy solid objects in your car as these objects will become projectiles in a crash.

An isopropyl dry gas additive is a great idea to use in gas or diesel cars.

Cooling system with proper freeze protection is mandatory. Also necessary are a good battery, charging system, washers/wipers and proper engine tune.

Higher tire pressures are also recommended.
